How to treat or remove facial scars

Scars are annoying enough. But a scar on the face? Of course, you want to remove that as soon as possible.

Fortunately, there are good ways to treat a scar. For example, you can:

  • Prevent the scar on your face from becoming extra visible
  • Reduce an existing scar so that it is less noticeable

But first, we'll explain:

Why you can't remove a scar on your face
Scars are caused by severe skin damage. Your body tries to close the wound as quickly as possible. Because with an open wound, you run a high risk of infections.

But because your skin is damaged, it loses a lot of moisture in that area. And it is precisely that moisture that is important for a beautiful healing of your wound.

Instead of a 'flawless' new skin, connective tissue (what we also call scar tissue) is created. This is usually rougher, thicker, and/or different in colour than the undamaged skin around it. Once the scar is there, it will never (completely) disappear, no matter what you do or try.

Ok, so that's the bad news. But there is also good news:

How to treat a scar on your face
There are plenty of things you can do to treat your scar. Both while your scar is still forming, and when the scar on your face has been there for a while. As a result, you prevent a very visible new scar as much as possible or reduce an existing scar as much as possible.

At the same time, you reduce scarring symptoms (such as redness, itching, and pain) with good care.

Prevent a scar (as much as possible)
Do you have a new wound on your face, and are you afraid of an unsightly scar? Then make sure you take care of your wound as well as possible. The better you do that, the more you will help your skin recover as beautifully as possible.

It is not always possible to completely prevent a scar. Only very superficial wounds (such as small cuts, superficial abrasions, or minor acne) may not cause a scar.

Do you have serious injuries? Then you will be left with a scar. But who knows, you might be able to make sure that it is (almost) unnoticeable. Here's how:

  • Avoid sunlight on your face. Because your damaged skin is now defenceless against harmful UV radiation. The radiation can permanently darken your scar and therefore make it more visible. And don't forget: you now also have an extra chance of skin cancer.
  • Don't scratch. You mustn't damage your skin even further. Especially a child will have difficulty with this. Then it is good to cover the healing scar well. Fortunately, this goes very well with the following point:
  • Use silicone gel or sheets. This gives your skin back its healing capacity because the gel or patches hydrate and retain moisture. You can use Scarban's products for this.
Follow the above treatment, and you will maximize the chance of the best possible recovery.

Reducing a scar
Do you already have a scar on your face? Even then, you can still start with the treatment we describe above. We cannot give any guarantees, but:

We often see that old scars also benefit from silicone gel or plasters. Your scar may fade slightly thanks to Scarban products.

Scarban's products against a scar on your face
Scarban silicone gel works very well for smaller scars on your face. Because: the gel is invisible after application. And doesn't make your skin sticky. This way you can also easily wear make-up over it!

Scarban silicone sheets are intended for more severe scars. That's why we have pre-formed sheets, specially designed for your face.
