DermaSilk® - a unique range of Therapeutic Clothing.

DermaSilk Therapeutic Clothing is used in the treatment of various forms of dermatitis, eczema and allergic skin conditions that affect different areas of the body across all age groups. Used both as underwear by day and as nightwear this fabric allows the skin to breathe and controls temperature and humidity - reducing itch and controlling flares. Unlike emollient retention garments, DermaSilk Therapeutic Clothing is intended to be worn continuously to help control eczema and reduce both the frequency and severity of eczema flares. DermaSilk does not replace conventional treatment like emollients and steroids but is used alongside them. What you will find is that the use of creams will naturally reduce as the DermaSilk controls the eczema.

Wear and Care

  • DermaSilk Therapeutic Clothing is designed to be lightweight and body forming. It needs to be close fitting and in contact with the skin at all times to be fully effective.
  • As with all natural fibres, DermaSilk will last longer if 2 or more garments are rotated in use rather than a single garment being washed and worn continuously.
  • When used in combination with medical creams and ointments, care should be taken to ensure that the medication is fully absorbed into the skin before the DermaSilk clothing is worn.
  • Do not use fabric softeners or conditioners.
  • Do not bleach DermaSilk clothing as it will damage the structure of the fabric.
  • DermaSilk clothing should preferably be hand washed using a mild non-biological (enzyme free) detergent, rinsed thoroughly and laid flat to dry on a towel
  • Have a look at SkinSalveation washing powder which is a delicate, filler-free detergent designed to effectively clean without fuss.
  • DermaSilk can be machine washed at 30 degrees providing it is placed in a net bag to protect the seams from tangling with other washing. Do not tumble dry DermaSilk as silk prefers to be humid rather than bone dry..
  • Use a cool steam iron if necessary. If the garment goes out of shape it can normally be restored using this method.
  • In areas with hard water the softness of DermaSilk can be restored as follows: After every 10 washes, soak DermaSilk clothing in a solution of 2 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda per litre of water overnight to maintain the softness of the fabric, then wash as instructed. This method can also be used for stain removal.
  • Please note that the antimicrobial agent (AEM 5772/5) is bonded permanently into the silk and will not leach out of the fabric, even after numerous washes.

The Face Mask for children belongs to the DermaSilk Therapeutic Clothing line for the wellness of the skin made with medical grade pure silk fibroin yarn. Thanks to the natural composition, (silk fibroin is the noblest part of silk and it has a protein structure similar to our skin) it can be used on sensitive, allergic, and hyperreactive skin. It acts like a 'second skin' in a simple and natural way, protecting the skin barrier when it's altered and supporting its balance and functions.

Clinical studies have shown that Dermasilk clothing reduces the use of cortisone and the frequence of relapse in Atopic Dermatitis and other cutaneous inflammatory pathologies.
Ideal as underwear during day or night.

Recommended for: eczema/atopic dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, mycosis, dry, sensitive and inflamed skin.

You can wash your DermaSilk clothing using a bit of mild shampoo, like baby shampoo, in lukewarm water (around 30-40°C). You can do this by hand or in the washing machine using a gentle cycle. Avoid using bleach, fabric softeners, stain removers, or disinfectants. Rinse the garments thoroughly with plenty of water and avoid spinning or tumble-drying them or drying them directly under heat sources.

To keep your DermaSilk clothes soft, soak them in lukewarm water mixed with baking soda (2 tablespoons per liter) for 2-3 hours before regular washing. This helps remove any mineral buildup on the fibers. If you have hard water, you can use vinegar instead. If washing by hand, soak the clothes in water with white vinegar (1 tablespoon per 3 liters) for an hour before rinsing. If using a washing machine, add 4-5 tablespoons of white vinegar to the softener compartment.

For stubborn stains, you can use the same procedure with water heated to 60°C. Any remaining stains are likely just pigment stains and won't affect the effectiveness of your DermaSilk clothing. Also, you can use a net wash bag to protect the fabric from snagging.

Versatile: Soft, lightweight, and cool, DermaSilk® underwear can be worn during the day or at night as needed. It's helpful during acute flare-ups of the condition, during periods of remission, as ongoing therapy, and for prevention.

Fit: DermaSilk garments work directly on the skin.

Creams/ointments: The antimicrobial protection of DermaSilk clothing starts working upon contact with the skin. For best results, ensure the skin is clean before wearing the garments. If using creams or ointments, make sure they're fully absorbed before putting on the clothing, as grease and dirt can reduce the effectiveness of the antimicrobial. It's advisable to avoid very greasy creams and opt for liquid or spray emollients when possible.

Can I use DermaSilk in any season?

Yes, DERMASILK garments have characteristics that make them suitable for all seasons. They are made with a light and very breathable mesh; they have a thermoregulatory function (they maintain the body temperature, without cooling down in the presence of sweating) and also have an excellent hygroscopic capacity, which allows them to absorb and quickly release humidity, retaining the optimal quantity between the fibers for the balance of the skin (10-35%).

How long do DermaSilk garments last?

DermaSilk garments last a long time due to the durable silk fiber they're made of. For best results, it's recommended to wash them daily. To extend their lifespan, consider buying at least two garments so the fibers can "rest" between wears. Ideal for those seeking clothing for eczema.

Is the antimicrobial that protects DermaSilk safe?

DERMASILK has no contraindications or side effects, because the antimicrobial that protects it is permanently fixed to the fiber and is an integral part of its structure: it is never released, neither following intense use nor following washing. For this reason, DERMASILK does not alter the normal bacterial flora of the skin and does not create microbial resistance phenomena (CNR - National Research Council certification).
